Purpose  to determine androgenetic capacities of H. spontaneum accessions and spring barley varieties, which are sources of high protein content, to evaluate the genetic variability of H. spontaneum in terms of protein content and vernalization requirement, to improve the method of plant regeneration in anther culture in vitro, to obtain intervariety and interspecies crosses, doubled haploid by improved technique. Methods  anther culture in vitro, light microscopy, Kjeldal digestion, infrared spectroscopy, artificial hybridization, variation statistics, ANOVA. Theoretical and practical results  Medium for plant regeneration has been developed and optimal time for transfer of morphogenic structures on regenerative medium has been determined. Spring barley varieties combining high protein content with high capacity for androgenesis in vitro were selected. From 18 F1-F2 hybrid populations, including 15 interspecies ones, 1,122 green plants were regenerated in anther culture in vitro and 53 doubled haploid lines were obtained.
