In the framework of nanoneurotoxicology research direction, the functional state of the exocytosis system, the transporter-mediated accumulation/release of neurotransmitters in the nerve terminals of the rat brain, and the ion-conducting properties of the planar phospholipid bilayer under the influence of various types of nano- and micro-particles were studied. Gadolinium-containing nanohybrids AGuIX with a proven ability to treat brain metastases did not show a neurotoxic effect, in contrast to their components. The ability of nanodiamonds to facilitate the ion transport through the lipid bilayer by forming ion-conducting channels in bilayer phospholipid membranes was determined. A unique compound, a derivative of 4-thiozolidinone, capable to modulate in the opositely directional manner the processes of excitation and inhibition in the nerve terminals of the brain was identified. Using a cell-free system that reproduces the stage of the compound exocytosis - the fusion of homotypic membranes, it was shown that after oral administration of the antiepileptic drug levetiracetam, the calcium-dependent fusion of synaptic vesicles decreased. The cationic biocide polyhexamethyleneguanidine hydrochloride caused a dose-dependent depolarization of the plasma membrane of brain nerve terminals and platelets and formed K+-selective potential...
