Тhe dependence of the development of Ukrainian culture and education on changes in power is substantiated, which determines the ideological direction of their development. Such circumstances caused more failures and losses than achievements in the Ukrainian humanitarian sphere in the 20th century; the author's hypothesis is substantiated: the anthropological views of cultural and educational figures (1917-1990) are characterized by tandem reflection on self-learning and self-development, which are recognized as the initial product of the teaching of the person and are the levels of his cognitive activity; the socio and anthropological views of Ukrainian philosophers, educators, scientists (I.Zyazyun, V.Korolenko, V.Kubievich, S.Simovich, M.Sumtsov, M.Shapoval, M.Shlemkevich) on the importance of education in the 20th century are characterized. In the context of solving educational problems related to the military aggression of the russian federation against Ukraine, the theoretical and practical aspects of the formation of historical memory among Ukrainian children and youth (as a component of national self-identification and a specific element of the modern national security policy of Ukraine in the field of education) are substantiated by educational means (conferences, round tables, online polls and discussions) and commemorative practices.
