Obtaining higher education in Ukraine is an urgent task, and the assessment of the current state of professional education appears to be critical. A competent approach becomes key in improving the education system in higher education institutions. The competency-based approach is extremely effective for foreign language training, allowing students to develop not only language skills, but also the competencies necessary for successful communication in various areas of life. Competence in education is considered as an important element that determines the student's readiness for independent work in various fields of activity. This concept becomes key for the formation of deep and broad knowledge among students. Understanding the key components of foreign language communicative competence is defined as the basis for successful student learning. The process of forming foreign language communicative competence includes a number of stages, starting from mastering the basics of the language and ending with a high level of skills and communication skills. The use of real materials and tasks helps students gain practical experience and solve real language tasks. The use of the latest technologies in education contributes to active and effective foreign language training, providing students with access to modern tools and resources. Involvement of students in active participation with the help of interactive methods contributes not only to better learning of the material, but also to the development of their communication skills. Foreign language training opens the door to wider professional opportunities, providing students with a competitive edge in the labor market. So, in view of the relevance of the application of the competence approach to learning foreign languages by students of higher education in non-philology majors. Developments in this field can be used in non-philological higher educational institutions of Ukraine in general and in the MNAU.
