Propagation of a nonlinear elastic longitudinal plane displacement wave is analyzed theoretically and numerically within the Murnagan model for an asymmetric initial profile in the form of a Whittaker function. The main novelty is that the wave evolution is analyzed by an approximate method, taking into account the first three approximations. The asymmetric profile in the form of the Whittaker function preserves the length of the sole and is asymmetric when the second harmonic is taken into account, but the amplitude value increases rapidly.
