The phenomenon of the historical discourse of memory is interpreted. The socio-political, social and economic determinants of modern "wars of memory" and "battles for the past" related to World War II are identified. The European experience of implementing the politics of memory of the World War II is systematized and conceptualized. The content, specifics and evolution of the politics of memory of the leading European countries regarding the World War II are analyzed. The forms, methods and means of actualization of the historical memory as an effective factor of political mobilization and social consolidation are highlighted. The foreign experience of the politics of memory as a way of forming national identity and image positioning in the international arena for the needs of Ukraine is theoretically comprehended and adapted.
