The main problem is the significant environmental impact of traditional plastic packaging. The use of biodegradable materials has the potential to reduce the ecological footprint, promote composting and minimize the use of petroleum-based resources. The aim was to investigate the properties of biodegradable packaging, its compatibility with dairy products, and to assess the possibilities of introducing domestic production of such materials. The project objectives were to study the environmental friendliness of biodegradable packaging, assess the mechanical and chemical resistance of the materials, conduct a sociological survey on consumer perception, and analyze economic barriers and institutional aspects. Various biopolymers including polylactides (PLA), polyhydroxybutyrate (PHA), and starch-based blends were investigated during the project. PLA provides high moisture barrier properties but requires refinement to improve thermal resistance. The materials meet EU standards for biodegradability. Pollution is reduced due to their ability to be composted. Most consumers have a positive attitude towards organic packaging, although cost remains a key barrier. There are discrepancies in international and national requirements for bio-packaging. Biodegradable packaging is a promising solution for the food industry, particularly the dairy sector. The results demonstrate the feasibility of combinable materials to expand the range of eco-packaging. Further research is needed to reduce production costs and improve materials.
