When reproducing insulin resistance, an increase in leptin receptor expression was found in the myocardium of Wistar rats, but without a significant increase in the levels of the adipokines leptin, chemerin, and apelin, as observed in experimental type 2 diabetes. PGC-1 protein expression was higher in myocardial hypertrophy. Insulin resistance contributed to an increase in its level, and when combined with hypoxic preconditioning, a significant increase in PGC-1 levels was noted in the right ventricle of the heart. Morphometric studies revealed that insulin resistance is accompanied by an increase in myocardium myoprotection. At the same time, hypoxic preconditioning partially loses its cardioprotective and mitoprotective effects in insulin resistance. In hypertrophied myocardium, better structural protection of mitochondria was found, but with increased myofibril damage and loss of the protective effect of preconditioning.
