It is shown that the interaction of time harmonics of the power supply and spatial harmonics of the winding functions leads to the appearance of higher harmonics in the supply currents and electromagnetic torque of an electric machine. On the basis of the theoretical analysis, the parameters and power supply schemes for the windings of multi-winding induction machines are substantiated to compensate the higher harmonics and to improve the electromagnetic torque of the machine. Using the author's method of average voltages at the numerical integration step, mathematical models were developed for researching electromagnetic and electromechanical processes in electronically commutated AC electric machines. The effectiveness of the developed models is evaluated by comparing them with known models and experimental results. The harmonic composition of supply currents and electromagnetic torque in electronically commutated AC electric machines in different operating modes is analyzed using the developed mathematical models. It is shown that the use of a multi-winding induction motor with appropriate winding power supply schemes makes it possible to significantly reduce the electromagnetic torque fluctuations (by a factor of 6 for a two-winding motor and by a factor of 60 for a four-winding motor) and supply current (by a factor of 1.5 for a two-winding motor and by a factor of 2 for a four-winding motor). This makes this type of inverter suitable for use in variable frequency drive as an alternative to the use of pulse width modulation, which negatively affects the state of the induction motor.
