A method has been substantiated and a setup has been created that allows detecting changes in the refractive index in samples with a scattering coefficient of more than 0.9, the sensitivity to changes in the refractive index is 10-4; a giant refractive response has been detected in hydrogels activated by metal complex compounds, the magnitude of which does not correspond to the photothermal properties of the matrix; data on the nonlinear refractive index of the cytoplasm of a living plant cell, as well as the dynamics of changes in the nonlinear refractive properties of egg white and cyanobacterial suspensions, have been obtained for the first time.
