Drought significantly affects both the activity of photosynthesis under stationary conditions and the dynamics of photosynthesis induction during the transition from darkness to light, in particular, it slows down the growth of the intensity of gas exchange. It was found that the processes of CO2 assimilation - the Rubisco carboxylase reaction and the Calvin cycle are much more sensitive to the effects of drought than the stomatal conductivity and the processes of light energy conversion and electron transport in chloroplasts. The decrease in the use of energy in the processes of CO2 assimilation under the drought affected the activity of photosystem II, however, the intensity of linear electron transport was maintained due to the activation of alternative energy sinks, in particular photorespiration and pseudo-cyclic electron transport. Plants of the Sofia Kyivska variety demonstrated high drought resistance of the photosynthetic apparatus, rapid response to changes in the light both under stress and normal conditions as well as good recovery ability. Plants of the Chygyrynka variety, which showed the worst performance under drought conditions, showed the best recovery ability after the stressor was removed. The high-protein variety Natalka was most sensitive to drought and high temperature. One of the reasons for its relatively lower resistance may be the lower synthesis of molecular chaperones of the 20-22 kDa family. The heating temperature of 55 °C was lethal for all studied varieties. Under drought conditions, the Podolyanka, Podilska Nyva and Poradnytsia varieties increase the synthesis of protective structural proteins, which contribute to the preservation of photosystem II in an intact state, which allows maintaining its high functional activity.
