It is established that the level of environmental competence of high school students in the control and experimental groups does not differ significantly, the difference is on average 0.5%. For the first time, a diagnostic toolkit for determining the state of readiness of high school students to carry out environmental project activities has been developed to diagnose the motivation of students to form environmental competence in environmental project activities. It contains the author's methodologies “Questionnaire of high school students' readiness for environmental project activities” for the profile level and the standard level, “Study of the motives of educational activities for creating environmental projects”. The diagnostic toolkit allowed us to: identify the level of interest and motivation of students to participate in environmental projects; assess the level of basic knowledge of high school students in ecology, which is necessary for successful work on projects; determine the level of mastery of the practical skills necessary for working on projects; identify the degree of readiness of high school students for teamwork, the ability to organize their activities, distribute responsibilities and communicate effectively with other project participants. For the first time, the author's methodology of project activities and practical cases were introduced into the educational process through the creation and implementation of profiles. A project profile as a combination of basic parameters, a description of the goal, objectives, structure of participants, the activity itself, and expectations.
