The subject of the research is visual and decorative applied arts collection of the National Museum of the History of Ukraine.
The purpose of the work is to study the formation of visual and decorative applied arts collection in the National Museum of the History of Ukraine as well as to introduce new information about museum objects into scientific use.
Over the past 20-25 years, scholars and museum workers have been actively attributing the unexplored painting collection at the NMHU. Since the end of the 20th century, this problem of the Ukrainian art history has been successfully solved by many of the museum researchers, namely, N. I. Shendryk, A. V. Lytovchenko, O. B. Pokhodiashcha, A. V. Vitrianska, T. M. Formaniuk, V. V. Bezpalko et al.
General scientific methods are used: analysis, synthesis, induction and deduction, comparison, classification, and generalization. Among the specialized historical methods are comparative-historical, problem-chronological, statistical etc.
