The components of designing and implementing the content of competence-based algebraic and geometric education in grades 7-9 are determined, in particular: the factors of content selection are clarified; selection priorities aimed at achieving modern educational goals are developed; methodological principles of content selection are highlighted. The didactic and methodological principles of realization of the competence potential of the mathematical educational field in the texts of algebra and geometry textbooks are substantiated. It has been established that in teaching algebra and geometry, a meta-subject approach should be implemented, which is aimed at both the successful mastery of educational material and the development of general methods and techniques that will facilitate the study of other school subjects, as well as solving problems in various fields of activity. The article formulates and structures the educational texts of algebra and geometry textbooks for the 7th grade, and develops its methodological apparatus based on the implementation of a competency-based approach. The latter implies that the content of education should include three interrelated components: the organization of empirical generalizations, the logical ordering of educational material and the application of mathematical facts in practice. It has been established that the second and third components of the proposed methodology should be approximated and considered as mutually inverse. Part of the materials of the methodological manual “Realization of the competence potential of mathematics in grades 7-9 of general secondary education” has been prepared, where it is found that competence-based learning involves a harmonious combination of knowledge, skills, abilities and attitudes.
