A theoretical model of assertive interaction as a factor in the self-development of gifted pupils and students in difficult life situations has been developed, which reflects the features of establishing value-based interaction between persons with and without signs of giftedness in such a way that the former can maintain their value autonomy and focus on the development of giftedness. 2. The features of assertive interaction of gifted pupils and students at certain age stages have been analyzed and promising areas of research have been identified: the feasibility of using Ukrainian folk sayings and proverbs for the development of assertiveness in adolescents has been substantiated; the role of assertiveness in the processes of self-actualization, self-realization, and self-development of a gifted individual in adolescence has been revealed; It was found that in difficult life situations, assertive interaction is a facilitating mechanism for the mutual influence of professional self-efficacy and psychological well-being as factors of self-development of students of artistic specialties. 3. The requirements for the use and development of methods for studying the assertiveness of individuals with signs of giftedness were determined: criterion-based orientation, taking into account the peculiarities of the age and social development of the subjects studied, value-oriented approach, ideographic and reflective orientation of methods, comparative approach in analysis. 4. The results of a pilot study are summarized, which showed changes in the mental state of gifted pupils and students associated with military operations: states of distress and deterioration of mental health, narrowing of the circle of social ties, lack of psychological support, dominance of affiliation tendencies and the threat of involution of giftedness, reduction of the regulatory potential of personal values of giftedness, the need for assertive interaction as a factor of self-development.
