Ushynsky” popup.description1 popup.description2  The object of the research is professional training of future teachers of foreign languages and teachers of other disciplines in a pedagogical institution of higher education. The aim of the study is to determine the cognitive-pragmatic aspects of the functioning of a foreign language and to theoretically justify the feasibility of updating the cognitive-pragmatic basis of the foreign language learning process. Research methods: theoretical; empirical; special linguistic methods: continuous sampling method, lexical-semantic analysis method, discursive-contextual analysis method, comparative analysis method. The expediency of updating the content of the professional training of future teachers of foreign languages is substantiated, taking into account the relevance of the cognitive-pragmatic component in modern linguistic and methodical research; the authors updated the linguistic and methodical content of work programs for teaching foreign languages in pedagogical institutions of higher education in line with the cognitive-pragmatic paradigm, developed and implemented into the educational process 3 original author’s courses, namely: “Academic writing in Chinese”, “Academic writing in Korean”, “Fundamentals of psycholinguistics”. Novelty: the pragmatic features of the English-language electoral discourse are defined for the first time; the conditions for the formation of the cognitive component of foreign language communicative competence among students of higher education in non-linguistic specialties are determined and analyzed; the pragmatic specifics of English scientific speaking of pedagogical orientation are described; the scientific works of Ukrainian scientists regarding the history of the development of foreign language teaching methods were analyzed and the historiography of various teaching methods in the 18th-20th centuries in the western Ukrainian lands is determined; the communicative and pragmatic features of video poetry are described.
