The subject of the study is scientific discussion and the culture of polemical discourse in science and socio-cultural practice. The purpose of the study is to reveal the essence of scientific polemics (discussion, dispute, controversy) as the basis for the formation of critical, argumentative thinking of a scientist in the dimension of his professional and social activities. The specified purpose involves solving a number of tasks that make up the plan and constitute the main problem areas of the study: Studying the connection between the history of philosophy and the history of science from the point of view of the formation of the foundations of modern scientific discourse, the content of which is the culture of polemics in the unity of critical and argumentative thinking; Revealing the essence of polemics (discussion), similarities and differences of their scientific and non-scientific forms; Identifying the meaning of the other, the role of the Other in scientific discussion, analyzing tolerance as a regulatory principle of conducting a discussion; revealing the essence of tolerance as an ethical restriction of conceptually incommensurate positions; Formation of critical thinking and civic position of a scientist, instilling knowledge, understanding, skills of research and methodological culture as a prerequisite for productive scientific polemics; Analysis of the reasons for the formation of understanding and ability to apply the cognitive and existential potential of philosophical knowledge in the younger generation of scientists for the development of scientific research activities and conducting scientific discussions. According to the results of the planned research, 64 publications (total volume 83 d. a.) were published in domestic and foreign scientific professional periodicals, in particular the collective monograph "Scientific polemics: criticism and argumentation" (Kyiv,2024).
