It is noted that continuity, as a category of research, is the subject of scientific investigations in philosophical, pedagogical, psychological, and other fields. The following forms of continuity are defined and characterized: positive (the object moves to a new stage in its development, preserving the progressive elements of the past); substantive (defined by the essence of material and spiritual values that are passed down from generation to generation); procedural (practical activity is the material basis for ensuring continuity). The leading directions of the research are defined as technological, target, psychological, and substantive. The psychological (the study of the natural logical connection in the development of children, the knowledge of which ensures gradualness and smoothness), the pedagogical (presupposes the establishment of an appropriate relationship between general and special training, knowledge, abilities and skills) and the methodical (the determination of consecutive logical connections in the purpose of , content, tasks, methods, organizational forms and means of teaching and education) scientific aspects of the characteristics of continuity. The ways of implementing the principle of continuity - the didactic principle of ensuring the prerequisites for schooling are characterized. It has been proven that the intermediate link of preschool education - primary school - is the leading type of continuity of the national world system.
