Research Objective – generalization and systematization of factual field material and determination of general regional and local features of traditional ritual phenomena of the autumn and winter cycle of Middle Polissya, establishment of habitats and boundaries of its distribution.
The methodological framework of the study involves the interrelated application of a range of research methods: comparative ethnographic, structural, typological, cartographic, as well as fieldwork methods of ethnographic research.
To clarify and enrich the source base of the mapped phenomena, a thematic expedition was conducted to 18 villages in the Sarny district of Rivne region and the Zviahel and Korosten districts of Zhytomyr region. During the expedition, over 18 hours of audio recordings were collected, and an additional 17 hours were recorded during a historical and ethnographic expedition to the Korosten district.
The processing, systematization, and analysis of empirical data collected during field research expeditions from 1994 to 2023 were carried out. A total of 108 hours of field audio recordings were transcribed and processed, and the gathered data were systematized into tables reflecting the structure and composition of calendar ritual phenomena. More than 250 printed sources relevant to the topic have been reviewed. The selection and classification of ritual elements for mapping were carried out, taking into account the specific polyfunctionality of ritual phenomena and the variability of their components.
Fifty maps were created to illustrate the distribution of calendrical ritual phenomena of the autumn
