As a result of the project, the most promising classes of fluorescent and dichroic dyes were selected for use in different spectral regions. Methods for the synthesis and purification of rhodamine, cyanine and squaraine dyes and luminophors with different amounts of sulfonate and phosphonate groups were developed and improved. Regularities have been established regarding the relationship between the spectral luminescent and photoorienting properties of squaraine and norsquaraine dyes, chromene derivatives (xanthene dyes), rhodamines and violanthrones with their molecular and supramolecular structure, with covalent and non-covalent binding to proteins and with changes in pH in environments close to the conditions of living organisms. FRET between two dyes with absorption in different spectral regions has been studied, and the possibility of using such a FRET pair to determine conformational changes in proteins has been assessed. Semiconductor quantum rods with a combined "rod in rod" structure have been created without a negative effect on the optical properties of the resulting structure. It has been shown that the use of promesogenic dendritic ligands in combination with relatively short alkylphosphonic acids as a "cell" for distributing quantum rods in a liquid crystal monomer provides the highest optical quality and the absence of aggregation of quantum rods even at high concentrations. Polymerization of a liquid crystal monomer with quantum rods distributed in it has produced high-quality films for increasing the brightness of liquid crystal displays.
