The subject of the study is the indicator and effective indicators of the internal combustion engine and other types of power plants based on it, indicators of fuel efficiency, exhaust gas toxicity and the service life of piston engines and their systems. The purpose of the work is to ensure the improvement of operational qualities, energy saving and service life of piston engines based on the implementation of the latest design solutions and technologies for organizing the work process when using advanced engine systems and promising types of fuel. The research methods are computational and experimental, using modern laboratory equipment and complex software tools for mathematical analysis and calculations. When performing this research, the following tasks were solved: the designs of gas distribution mechanisms of modern automobile internal combustion engines were analyzed; the problems of reducing the toxicity of ICE exhaust gases were analyzed; an assessment of the quality of scientific and technical solutions implemented in domestic diesel engines in relation to the sustainable development of world engine building was carried out; the influence of combustion chamber designs and fuel jet parameters on the mixture formation process was determined; the implementation of two-stage fuel combustion in a modern domestic diesel engine was considered; a computational and experimental study of the transient processes of the ICE supercharging system was carried out; the problems of creating a combined power plant for a modern vehicle based on an ICE were considered.
