The value of the crop is determined by the fact that it provides early, highly digestible green fodder, and rye bran contains up to 16% protein, 3.5–4.0% fat and up to 60% carbohydrates. Straw is used as feed in livestock and bioenergy raw materials, as well as for the manufacture of paper and household items. The great agrotechnical value of this crop lies in its strong tillering and rapid growth in spring, which suppresses weeds, therefore it is a good precursor for other crops.
