Research report: 54 pages, 3 tables, 9 figures, 53 references, and 1 appendix.
The research was carried out in accordance with the Order of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine dated February 17, 2025, No. 93 “On the results of the 2024 competition for obtaining grants of the NAS of Ukraine by research laboratories/groups of young scientists of the NAS of Ukraine for conducting research in priority areas of science and technology development for 2025–2026”.
Aim of the study: to provide an operational, reliable, and safe assessment of the condition of shelterbelts damaged as a result of military actions over large agricultural landscapes using remote sensing data.
Object of the study: shelterbelts damaged by military actions within agricultural landscapes.
Subject of the study: methods of remote assessment of shelterbelts damaged by military actions within agricultural landscapes.
The report presents the main scientific results obtained during the project implementation in 2025.
Main results obtained during the first year of the project: an analysis and selection of indicators for assessing the condition of shelterbelts were carried out, and appropriate spectral indices were identified for each indicator. A technique for remote assessment and mapping of shelterbelt damage based on heterogeneous and multi-scale remote sensing data was developed, taking into account long-term changes in indicator values. A geoinformation toolbox was developed and implemented on the Google Earth Engine platform, ensuring full automation of the proposed technique.
Potential users of the project results: the results may be implemented in the work of the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine, local self-government bodies and territorial communities, as well as scientific institutions and higher education establishments for monitoring, analysis, and planning of shelterbelt restoration measures.
