popup.description1
Solving actual problems of today related to adverse effects of Covid-19 pandemic and fulfillment of Ukraine's international obligations on the creation of new protected areas:
- development of an experimental model of postcovid syndrome and liquidation of its consequences;
- development of the justification for the National Natural Park "Skhidny Stepy" and the principles of active support of incomplete ecosystems on its territory.
popup.description2
Based on materials from Earth remote sensing, land management cartographic
materials, and field surveys, the degree of disturbance of the natural grass cover of
floodplain meadows of rivers in the steppe zone of northeastern Ukraine has been
assessed. The main factors disrupting the hydrological regime are uncontrolled
plowing of the floodplain. The results of such impacts include siltation and
shallowing of the river, a reduction in annual runoff volume, and, consequently, the
shallowing of higher-order rivers into which small rivers of the steppe zone flow. The
destruction of the natural plant cover due to shelling of the territory during military
actions leads to a high level of contamination of the land and water with chemical
compounds, which are subsequently carried downstream and deposited in bottom
sediments over a large area, eventually entering the ecosystem's matter cycle. The
recreational value of the territory of Dvorichansky National Nature Park has been lost
for many years due to littering and the danger from unexploded ordnance, among
other factors. The transformation of the reservoir's ecosystems is associated with
shallowing and eutrophication. These two factors, caused by the slowdown of water
flow, lead to increased temperatures and create conditions for water 'blooming' with a
decrease in oxygen content.
