The use of new high-yielding varieties and hybrids of seeds of the main oil crops (including rapeseed) of domestic and foreign selection, while observing the appropriate cultivation technologies, allows to achieve high indicators in rather unpredictable weather and climatic conditions. The capacities available in Ukraine are sufficient for processing the entire harvested crop of oil crops. At the same time, a significant part of enterprises are multifunctional, that is, they are able to process various types of oil crops. Therefore, it is necessary to maximize the internal processing of rapeseed at domestic facilities, as well as to preserve and increase the export potential of Ukrainian oil and fat products, namely oil and meal of the main oil crops. The general quality requirements for toasted rapeseed meal for animals are moisture content – no more than 11.5%, total weight of crude protein and oil – no less than 35%, crude fiber content – no more than 14%, glucosinolate content – no more than 34 μMol/g. Rapeseed contains 40-45% oil and gives 55-60% meal after complete extraction of the oil with an organic solvent. The main steps of this process are seed cleaning, grinding, heating and pressing to remove part of the oil mechanically, solvent extraction (mainly hexane) of the cake to remove the remaining part of the oil, solvent removal and toasting. The processing temperature is one of the main factors that affects the quality of the obtained meal. The latter must contain no more than 2-3% of the remaining oil.
