The research methodology is based on the application of a theoretical approach, which includes analysis of scientific and technical sources on environmental safety issues in urban water management (from water intake to wastewater treatment); empirical methods, in particular hydrochemical analysis of surface runoff during the winter season; calculation methods for assessing the effectiveness of nitrogen compound transformation during biological treatment at municipal treatment facilities in Kharkiv.
The report substantiates directions for optimising the environmental safety of urban water management facilities and outlines the main challenges facing surface wastewater drainage systems and biological treatment facilities.
The research report contains: an introduction, four main sections (legislative support for the management of sewage and surface wastewater in Ukraine, improvement of methods for monitoring and managing the condition of activated sludge in urban wastewater treatment biotechnology, identification of environmentally hazardous emissions from urban water management facilities and development of methods for their minimisation, solutions for the management of surface wastewater generated within the city), conclusions, and a list of references.
