popup.description2
Study object: methods and technologies of forest inventory and monitoring.
Aim of the study: studying the best practices for collecting and analysing forest inventory data and developing recommendations for improving the national forest inventory of Ukraine, taking into account modern European requirements and the impact of military operations.
Methodology of the study: systematic forestry and ecological approach, international methods of selective statistical inventory and monitoring of forests, guidelines for the inventory of Ukrainian forests, mathematical modeling methods, multispectral satellite data Sentinel-2 and SAR (Sentinel-1), cloud computing platforms (Google Earth Engine), machine learning algorithms (Random Forest, k-NN, GNN), geographic information systems (Q-GIS, Field-Map, PostgreSQL/PostGIS, nFIESTA), and statistical validation and data quality control methods.
The framework conditions for the development of forest monitoring in Ukraine have been determined, taking into account the country’s European integration processes. Scientific and methodological support has been provided for the development of the National Forest Inventory of Ukraine (NFI). Directions for transforming the NFI and forest monitoring into a unified multi-source forest monitoring system in Ukraine – combining ground-based observations and remote sensingdata – have been substantiated. Algorithms for using the nFIESTA platform to analyse data from the National Forest Inventory of Ukraine have been developed. The architecture of a consolidated forest management data repository and its filling using the UKRTAX GIS Field-Map module have been developed, and solutions for effective information management have been proposed.
