Determining the effects of SARS-CoV-2 on the male reproductive system and developing methods for treating complications and restoring reproductive and sexual function
popup.description2
It has been established that changes in the metabolic activity of seminal plasma and spermatozoa, associated with impairments in their morphofunctional state and fertilization capacity, play a central role in the pathophysiological and pathochemical mechanisms underlying the development of post-COVID-19 male pathospermia. Effective and promising treatments for correcting spermatogenesis disorders following COVID-19 include a combination of antioxidant medications and PRP therapy, which, when administered for at least 3 months, led to improvements in certain qualitative and quantitative parameters of ejaculate, restoration of the balance between pro- and antioxidant systems in seminal plasma, and oxidative DNA damage in spermatozoa. A significant proportion of men (49 out of 117, or 41.2%) with post-COVID ED are men with normal testosterone levels but clinical signs of hypogonadism (fatigue, reduced work capacity, etc.). In the treatment of relative post-COVID hypogonadism, intracavernosal PRP therapy and intravenous stem cell therapy have a clinical effect of improving libido and sexual function and can be considered promising methods for treating this condition.
