popup.description1
Revealing the mechanisms of interaction of redox-active biomolecules (vitamins, amino acids, reactive oxygen species, etc.) with inorganic nanoparticles with ions of variable valence with different values of redox potentials depending on the type and concentration of redox-active biomolecules, nanoparticle parameters (size, morphology, defect structure) and biological media. Determining the ways to improve the sensor properties of the obtained nanoparticles, in particular, the selectivity of interaction with specific substrates by optimizing the redox interaction between the nanoparticle and substrate molecules in complexes based on cyclodextrin and nanoparticles. Revealing the possibilities of obtaining luminescent sensors for the simultaneous detection of redox-active substrates with different values of redox potential in aqueous solutions and biological media.
popup.description2
As a result of this work, colloidal solutions of CeO2-x, TbO2-x, and CeO2-x:Eu3+ nanocrystals were synthesized, and their potential application as luminescent sensors for various types of redox-active molecules in aqueous solutions and biological media with high ionic strength was demonstrated. In particular, it was shown that increasing the concentration of hydrogen peroxide enhances, whereas increasing the concentration of ascorbic acid decreases the luminescence intensity of Ce3+ ions in cerium oxide (CeO2-x) nanocrystals. It was shown that both the luminescence intensity of Tb3+ ions and the intensity ratio of the terbium emission bands in TbO2-x nanocrystals are determined by the concentration of hydrogen peroxide in aqueous solutions. This finding demonstrates the possibility of using these materials as hydrogen peroxide sensors. Furthermore, unlike sensors based on CeO2-x nanocrystals, TbO2-x -based sensors were found to be irreversible due to the higher redox potential of the Tb³⁺/Tb⁴⁺ redox couple (+3.1 V) compared with that of the Ce³⁺/Ce⁴⁺ redox couple (+1.66 V). The suitability of CeO2-x:Eu³⁺ nanoparticles for the luminescent detection of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and ascorbic acid was also demonstrated by monitoring the emission intensities of Ce³⁺ and Eu³⁺ ions, as well as changes in the intensity ratio of the Eu³⁺ 5D0 → 7F1 and 5D0 → 7F2 emission bands. It was shown that the addition of fetal bovine serum prevents the aggregation of CeO2-x and CeO2-x:Eu3+ nanoparticles in biological media with high ionic strength (DMEM, Hanks, and C199) and lowers the detection limit for reactive oxygen species.
