The purpose of the work is to establish the nature of the mutual influence of two types of molds with environmentally safe binding materials on their properties and on the quality of small castings obtained in such molds
popup.description2
The thesis investigates the feasibility of producing combined molds and cores structured by the steam-microwave curing method (SMC process), alongside the application of frozen casting patterns made of sand-water mixtures to manufacture solid-block self-contained molds. The technological properties of frozen sand-water mixtures and the impact of environmental factors on their performance were thoroughly analyzed. Furthermore, the study evaluates the potential for hydro-regeneration of spent molding and core sands, as well as their subsequent utilization as charge materials for sodium silicate lump production. Rational conditions for both frozen and resin-coated sands were established to ensure their effective joint application. Additionally, the influence of molds on the quality of castings made of bronze and high-alloy chromium-nickel steels was determined. The implementation of the project provides a comprehensive solution to urgent health, safety, and environmental challenges within the foundry industry without requiring high capital expenditure for upgrading the existing material and technical infrastructure of Ukrainian enterprises. Concurrently, the proposed approach allows for the near-complete elimination of imported organic components in favor of domestic inorganic binders. It reduces toxic emissions into the air, soil, and water practically to zero, ensures near-zero-waste production of molds and cores, and decreases both the energy intensity of the process and the casting cycle time.
