popup.description1
Creating resource-saving and closed-cycle technology obtaining titanium-zirconium raw materials at a mining enterprise by substantiating the technological parameters of the development of watered placer ores with separation of the mineral within the pit field, which will allow reducing the loss of valuable minerals, re-enriching the waste of the enrichment process, separating clay rocks from sand with their subsequent separate storage as building raw materials, which will have a positive effect on land conservation.
popup.description2
The development of new and existing titanium-zirconium deposits in Ukraine is of strategic importance for economic development, as it helps meet the needs of many economic sectors for critical raw materials. Up to 10% of the world’s reserves of titanium-zirconium ores are concentrated in Ukraine’s subsoil, making the country a major player in the global market. Titanium ores are of paramount importance to high-precision industries, as they have a wide range of applications in aircraft manufacturing, rocket production, electronics, high-precision instruments, medical equipment, and more.
Despite Ukraine’s significant resource potential for supplying titanium raw materials, the future of this industry faces uncertain prospects, as deposits with favorable geologic conditions are virtually depleted, and the development of new deposits is complicated by high levels of water saturation. In addition, existing processing schemes have a number of significant drawbacks, namely the loss of mineral raw materials that end up in the tailings ponds of the concentrator plant. A detailed study of the mineral composition of the tailings ponds at the Vilnohirsk MMC has determined that, with the current technology for enriching titanium-zirconium ores, the tailings contain between 1 and 3% of the total amount of the main components—zircon, rutile, ilmenite—and associated minerals: disten, sillimanite, and staurolite. The impact of open-pit mining operations on titanium-zirconium mineral losses has been determined, and global experience in developing titanium-zirconium placer deposits based on closed-loop principles has been examined. Technological schemes for circular development have been analyzed, and the relationships between the parameters of closed-loop systems—involving the re-processing of valuable waste—and the integration of a semi-mobile processing unit into the technological cycle to produce a bulk concentrate have been established.
