popup.description1
Identification of possible threats to the existence of birds, bats and their ecological corridors in the area of the planned construction of the wind farm.
popup.description2
Subject of study: birds and bats.
The objective of this expert research is to conduct a preliminary assessment and analysis of the status of bird and bat fauna, as well as the potential impact thereon of a proposed wind power plant complex and associated electrical infrastructure (high-voltage substations, distribution points, and overhead or underground power lines). This assessment covers the territories of the Smidyn and Lukiv amalgamated territorial communities in the Kovel District of the Volyn Region.
The baseline assessment of the potential impact resulting from the construction and subsequent operation of the wind power plant is based on an analysis of existing literature, Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) reports and conclusions, Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) reports, previous ornithological studies, and scientific reports concerning areas adjacent to the site of the planned activity. Particular attention is focused on the preservation of the gene pool of rare bird and bat species protected under international and national legislation.
This report presents the findings of research conducted under an agreement between "Zakhidna VES2" LLC and the Institute of Ecology of the Carpathians (National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine). The scope of work involved assessing and analyzing the status of bird and mammal fauna, as well as the potential impact of the proposed wind power plant complex on these species within the Kovel District of the Volyn Region. As part of the services stipulated by the contract, and in accordance with standard methodologies, field surveys were conducted to assess the fauna—specifically birds, mammals, amphibians, and reptiles—within the area designated for the construction of a wind power plant. Based on the data obtained, an assessment was carried out regarding the potential negative impact of the planned activities on the local fauna, with a particular focus on birds and bats, including rare and protected species.
