The objective - to improve the linguistic and methodological content of teaching English as a major at Higher School on the basis of current integrated research accomplishments on language as sociocultural phenomenon. Research methodology: theoretical, empirical, diagnostical, statistical methods. Theoretical and practical results: 1) grounding of the necessity to improve the content of teaching English as a major at Higher School on the basis of integration in the Humanities; 2) renewal of the linguistic content of teaching English as a major on the basis of scientific research in the field of studing language as a functioning system: analysis of the mechanisms of language functioning from the point of view of logicogrammatical dynamics theory; study of voice prosodic characteristics verbalization in modern English (on the basis of dictionaries and belles-lettres texts); analysis of speech acts prosodic characteristics in English and Turkish and elaboration of methods of overcoming Turkish prosodic interference; 3) content and methodology of developing information culture in future English teachers; the methodology of speech etiquette development for business English communication; the aesthetic component of English language teaching content in the context of integration; methods, techniques and types of tasks to form and develop linguistic, speech, discoursive, sociocultural, educational-cognitive and methodological competences, which provide the effective pre-service English language teacher education; 4) elaboration of theoretical models of teaching English as a major and their methodological supplementation; 5) renewal of syllabi linguistic and methodological content on the basis of the current research results. Advances in research: 1) the mechanisms of language functioning from the point of view of logicogrammatical dynamics theory; 2) the classsification and description of the vocabulary that represents the main prosodic characteristics of speech voice and performs the functions of transmitting information about the speaker's personality and manifesting his emotional state; typical language means of prosodic characteristics verbalization in isolation and in certain combinations as well; the regularities of combinability of prosodic characteristics, verbalized in several word units, and the part of speech distribution of these language means in onomasiological aspect, that enable to analyze the deep links of prosodic characteristics and their language expression realyzed in onomasiological categories; methods and means of verbalization of voice stereotypes, that identify the speaker in terms of various social characteristics; 3) the content and the structure of the "information culture of an English teacher" phenomenon, criteria, indicators and the levels of developing information culture of future English teachers; the pedagogical conditions enhancing the efficiency of information culture in prospective English teachers; the experimental model and methodology of developing information culture in future English teachers; 4) criteria, evaluative indicators and levels of developing speech etiquette in business communication; the pedagogical conditions, experimental model and methodology for effective development of speech etiquette in English communication.
