Study object: natural terrain complexes (NTC) of the Ukrainian Carpathians, Volyn Upland and the Podillia of landshaft, mistsevist and urochyshche levels. The goal is to find out the peculiarities of the landscape structure, actual economic as well as functional and dynamic processes of the NTC, and to propose the measures for their rational use that are aimed on the support of the sustainable development of the region. The study methods are field large- and medium scale mapping, stationary studies, and GIS analysis and modelling. As a result, a new version of a landscape map is produced for the Ukrainian Carpathians and a series of maps for the Volyn Upland, Central Podillia, Ukrainian Roztochia and a number of key areas. Theoretical principles and the methods of landscape monitoring at the background level are improved. The landscape principles are substantiated for tourist-recreation activities, improvement of functional zoning and creation of new protected areas. The landscape indicators are developed for the sustainable development of the Carpathian Region of Ukraine. Landscape-geophysical studies of climatic conditions are made, based on the data of Roztcha and Chornohora stations and of weather stations. They are important for agricultural and recreation activities. The measures are proposed for the rational use of recreation resources of the region.
