The work aims at comprehensive study of dental terminological units of English, German, French, Ukrainian and Latin languages in semantic, morphological and cognitive aspects. Research Methods. Descriptive method based on opposition and internal interpretation is used to make a systemic arrangement of terminological units and to explain the peculiarities of their structure and functioning. Structural method (methods of distributive and component analysis) is applied to study the terminology as an integrated functional structure, components and parts of which are correlated and connected with a distinct system of lingual relations. To study the peculiarities of the formation of dental terminology system on each of the identified stages of development the elements of synchronic analysis are used, and to identify the etymology of the terms diachronic analysis was applied. Productivity of derivative models has been determined by the method of quantitative calculations. Results. The phenomena observed in this paper make it possible to qualify dentistry lexical units as an advanced terminological vocabulary, which is the result of century-old development of dentistry as a science, a specific area of human activity. Identified system parameters prove it to be multilevel terminological system, which combines conceptual and linguistic systemforming factors. Dental terminology functioning is motivated by both linguistic and extralinguistic factors - globalization processes in society, expand of the communication-information boundaries, multi-culture tendencies, linguistic expression necessity, evaluation categories.
