The main purpose of this standard is to define several issues concerning biometric performance testing, in particular: 1) detailed addresses two specific biometric performance testing methodologies: technology and scenario evaluation; 2) careful consideration is given to the characteristic differences of each modality (fingerprint, face, iris, etc.) in biometric performance testing and reporting; 3) defines tests to specifically address absolute performance, sufficiency, and interoperability available from biometric data formatted to comply with established standards; 4) detailed clarifies issues, concerning solely with the scientific "technical performance testing" of biometric systems and subsystems to be used for access control; 5) describes operational tests, that evaluate complete biometric systems in the targeted operational environment with the target population, that may encompass performance monitoring of operational systems or assessment of performance in operational trials.
