Description
Energy efficiency and energy saving is ones of the main problems of present days. In
the context of economic transformation, the research of world experience of energy
saving and energy efficiency improvement ways have gained special urgency. With
the transition to market conditions of managing, CEE countries have reformed their
energy sector and achieved increasing efficiency of energy usage. However, these countries have achieved different degrees of success in this direction. The research
revealed the existence of the interconnection between energy efficiency and
international competitiveness, the most competitive countries have high energy
efficiency. The investigated CEE countries, excluding Ukraine, are characterized by
the energy intensity, comparable with the indicators of the most developed countries.
Ukraine is characterized by low competitiveness and low energy efficiency. In
comparison with the countries of the region, Ukrainian economy has the highest
energy intensity and the largest volume of energy imports. The analysis has pointed to
the comparatively slow pace of reducing energy intensity of the Ukrainian economy in
comparison with other CEE countries and a great impact on energy intensity indicators
of their foreign economic activity.
