Description
Pectobacterium (Pect. carotovorum subsp. carotovorum,
Pect. carotovorum subsp.
Bacillus і Pseudomоnas.
The study was conducted in the PSP "Promin" of the
Bogodukhiv district of the Kharkiv region in 2024. Along with other diseases,
significant losses in potato yields are caused by rots of bacterial origin. Bacteriosis is
especially dangerous when storing tubers. The primary infection begins in the field
during the potato growing season and continues to develop during winter storage. In
some years, yield losses from wet rot are 30–50%.
As a result of the conducted studies, it was noted that wet rot of potatoes is
caused by bacteria of the genus Pectobacterium (Pect. carotovorum subsp.
carotovorum, Pect. carotovorum subsp. phytophthorum) in the form of soft rot of
tubers, rot of stems in the form of blackening of the root zone, hard rot of tubers.
Bacteria of the genus Bacillus and Pseudomonas are also often involved in the
pathology of these diseases. It was also noted that the same pathogens of bacteriosis as
stem rot are caused by potato wet rot, with the exception of bacteria of the genus
Bacillus. Tubers of unstable varieties are affected in dynamics approximately the same
way from the beginning of tuber formation to their full ripening, and in relatively
resistant varieties, the activation of the infectious process occurs after the tubers re ripen. The tested varieties were characterized by relative resistance to wet rot compared
to the susceptible variety Rakurs. The variety Dnipryanka showed relative resistance
to it. Taking into account the degree and nature of tuber damage gives a more complete
assessment of resistance to wet rot. Varieties with relative resistance can be used in
breeding work as starting material. By introducing potato varieties with different
resistance to wet rot, you can get additional profits of up to UAH 11,302. The most
economically profitable potato variety is Dnipryanka.
