The object of the research is the vocabulary of the Ukrainian language ХVІ - the first half of the ХVІІ century. in the lexicographic dimension and the dialects of the southwestern dialect Methods of research - lexicographic, comparative-historical, descriptive, ethnolinguistic, linguogeographical, statistical. The results and novelty of the research - based on the sources that represent the entire Ukrainian language continuum, the regular editions of the dictionary of the XVI century - the first half of the XVII century were created. Work is the next stage of the work being performed, since the fragment of the dictionary has been published on the letter M (17 vp.). Creation of dictionaries is based on the painstaking study of both the material of the monuments and contemporary dialects, in which vocabulary functions today. At the same time, a number of dialectological works, representing the vocabulary of the southwestern dialects in the lexicographic, arbal, onomasiological aspects, were prepared and published. In addition to the publication of historical and a number of dialect dictionaries, the results of the study are summarized in scientific articles and monographs. Research conducted, the results of which were tested at international and all-Ukrainian conferences and scientific schools, which took place annually in particular in the department, demonstrated the importance of further work. Cooperation with foreign Slavic schools made it possible to see Ukrainian issues in the general Slavic scientific background.
