The concept of the formation and functioning of social norms as social and psychological thinking forms is proposed. The conceptual models are developed, namely а structural-functional model of the nation-building process, which includes the idea of the system of socio-psychological mechanisms of its functioning; the model of socio-psychological analysis of the phenomenon of nation-building in the relationship of four conceptual constructs (citizen, ethnos, state, civil society); а structural-functional model historical psychology which reveals its potential for national building and conflict resolving in a multicultural environment; а socio-psychological model of the conflict of military, post-war and civilian thinking in hybrid warfare conditions; a multifactor model of societal crisis, which explains the dialectic of consolidation and confrontation in the Ukrainian nation-building. A number of theoretical provisions are formulated regarding: subject-behavioral approach to the process of nation-building; the relationship of the phenomena of human aggressiveness and national identity; the conceptual framework of socio-psychological analysis of the phenomenon of national identity, the laws of its existence and development in conditions of uncertainty. The conceptual basis of studying the nation-forming potential of social psychology in Ukraine (the end XIX - first half XX century) are justified.
