The subject of the study is design activities in contemporary fine arts and design. The object of study is the subject activity in design and the educational process in higher educational institutions. The problem is solved. In recent years, the question of the essence of design and its role in contemporary art has increasingly taken up not only design practitioners, but also domestic sociologists, cultural scientists, educators, philosophers and other representatives of social and humanitarian knowledge. Design, as an expression of the project culture of post-industrial society, emphasizes the process of changing the aesthetic criteria and improving the industrial form. Research methods. The methodological basis of the proposed work is comparative-historical, systematic and activity approaches, which allow to consider the studied problem of design and fine arts in their totality as a complex synthesis of process and result at the same time, as well as as a specific phenomenon, with their inherent regularities and structure; synthesis of existing theoretical provisions, methodological systems and practical learning outcomes; generalization of innovative experience of teachers of higher education institutions; pedagogical observations, questioning, interviews, testing; experimental research work on the implementation of the main research results in the teaching in higher education institutions. The relevance and scientific novelty of the study is as follows: • Design definitions are investigated in relation to the problems and tasks posed in the design developments; • psychological and pedagogical principles of effective organization of educational and scientific activity of a student in a higher educational institution. The research results are implemented in the practice of the Kharkiv National Pedagogical University.
