The purpose of the first stage of work: to experimentally and theoretically investigate the physicochemical processes that lead to the emission of sulfur molecules in the longitudinal pulse-periodic discharge of low pressure and barrier discharge of high pressure. Research methods - optical spectroscopy of gas discharge with time separation. Equipment - pulse-periodic discharge power supplies, monochromators, photodetectors, pulse current and voltage sensors, oscilloscope. The performed researches were carried out on the original experimental installation "Plasma", procedures of measurements and data processing on which are completely automated. Theoretical calculations were performed using a kinetic 0-D model of basic physicochemical processes for the case of a working mixture of argon-sulfur. For the first time, the emission and time characteristics of low-temperature plasma obtained in a helium-sulfur mixture were investigated and it was found that a mixture of helium and sulfur vapor is an effective radiation source in the wavelength range 300–700 nm due to spontaneous radiation of sulfur dimers (S2) ( ) and visible region of the spectrum. Numerical simulations were performed using the kinetic 0-D model of basic physicochemical processes for the case of the working argon-sulfur mixture. It is shown that the concentrations of the molecule increase rapidly at the beginning of the voltage pulse and reach a maximum after the first ~ 2 μs, and then the concentration of these molecules decreases rapidly. Based on the results of this work, it is established that the main mechanism of formation of excited sulfur dimers is the transfer of energy from metastable atoms of inert gas to crystalline sulfur molecules Sn≤8. The obtained experimental data will allow to create a source of low-temperature plasma based on sulfur vapor, which can find practical application in medicine and lighting.
