The object of research is the processes of intellectualization of economic relations in the post-industrial society on the basis of innovative and sustainable development in the EU and Ukraine. The purpose of the research is to develop theoretical and methodological bases and practical recommendations for the development of intellectual economy and innovative development of Ukraine based on the experience of the European Union. Research methods: historical; abstract-logical; comparison; generalization; economic and statistical; analogies and systematization; method of expert evaluation; other general-logical, theoretical, empirical and concrete-economic research methods. The problem of definition of intellectual economy and theoretical background of its formation has been investigated. The approaches of scientists to the peculiarities of the definition of intellectual economy have been analyzed. The connection of intellectual economy with the concept of sustainable development as a priority direction of development has been established. The essence of the intellectual economy and its main participants, which form the structure of the world intellectual economy, has been established. The role of intellectual property in the system of intellectual economy has been characterized. Factors influencing the intellectual economy through the use of international indices that characterize the activities of each participant in this system have been studied. An approach to assessing the state of the world intellectual economy on the basis of an integrated index of the intellectual economy, consisting of five international indices consolidated into a single information coordinate system, has been proposed.
