S. Berezhnoy" popup.description2  Research object is fireclay castable (FC). Work purpose is technology improvement of FC. Research methods are physical-mechanical, chemical and petrographic ones. The amount influence of alumina cements (AC) of “Gorkal-40” and “VGTsSh-60” grades on the properties of FC and castable samples from it before and after heat treatment was studied. The optimal amount of “Gorkal-40” cement was established, which ensures the manufacture of samples with properties that meet the technical specifications (TS) requirements. The influence of clay additive on the properties of FC with AC of “Gorkal-40” and castable samples from it before and after heat treatment at 110, 1100 and 1350 ºС was studied. It was found that, the introduction of clay in the amount of 0.5 % in the composition of FC with the optimal amount of cement allows improving the performance of castable. The FC technology was improved and a pilot product (burner stone) was made from a castable of optimal composition, which after firing at 1380 ºC was characterized by the following properties: open porosity 21.2 %, apparent density 2.16 g/cm3, CCS 51 N/mm2, which meet the TS requirements. The influence of aggregate type (brown alumina, tabular alumina, bauxite) on the properties of alumina-silica carbide mix for thixotropic gutter mass before and after firing at a temperature of 1500 ºС was studied. It was found that, the properties of samples from this mix increase according to the following series: bauxite → tabular alumina → brown alumina. The possibility of using tabular alumina or bauxite as an alternative raw material in the manufacture of gutter mass, depending on the application site, was shown. Pilot batches of alumina-silica unformed refractories and products based on them with properties, that meet the TS requirements, were delivered to consumer on domestic market.
