The purpose is to study the peculiarities of the historical development of Ukraine in the 19th - early 20th centuries, especially its political, economic and socio-cultural component.Research methods: problem-chronological, comparative-historical, historical-genetic, historical-systemic, diachronic.The main historiographic stages of the study of the domestic and world historical science of the civilization development of Ukraine in the new and the latest time are determined. Analyzed the originality of political and economic processes in the Ukrainian lands in the XIX - early XX centuries. Ethnonational, sociocultural processes and their specificity in the south of Ukraine are investigated in the second half of the XIX - XX centuries. The novelty of the study is that it defined the originality of the model of the transition of Ukraine from a traditional to an industrial society, outlined its main stages and made reasoned generalizations and conclusions regarding the results of this civilizational development. The results of research are introduced into the educational process at the Faculty of History of the DNU. On the provisions and conclusions of the Research Institute, student diplomas and coursework are carried out.
