The purpose of the research is to create a cohesive conception of the transformation of the social consciousness of the Southern and Eastern Ukrainian population during the period of the transition completion to industrial society in the 1930s up to the modern Russian-Ukrainian war. The methods of the research are “total history” (deep integration of historical analytical tools with practices in psychological, social philosophy, political science and cultural studies); comparative-historical, retrospective, diachronic and synchronous methods, oral history tools, as well as contemporary research technics in the social consciousness studies – historical anthropology, lifeworld theory, semiotics. In the result of accomplished archival and library heuristics, the relevant resource basis of the research on the social consciousness of the inhabitants of Southern and Eastern Ukraine research was determined. For the first time, a series of unpublished documents from the Soviet authorities’ funds, the results of oral history surveys, as well as memoirs of the regional inhabitants of the second half of the20th – the beginning of the 21st centuries were introduced into scientific circulation. An electronic complex of sources has been created to further study the influence of propaganda on the public consciousness of the population of the South and East of Ukraine. The main directions of influence on the public consciousness of the population of the region during the 1930s - 1991 are determined.
