Karazin Kharkiv National University popup.description2  The object of the study was the technological operations of forming composite materials and functional ion-plasma coatings that can be used to manufacture and improve the performance properties of cutting tools. The physical mechanisms of formation and controlled change of the structural-phase state and structure of composite materials and functional coatings on the surface of solid materials were investigated for the purpose of implementing increased stability under high thermal and baric loads. The use of coatings of various types, in particular, those containing tungsten nitride (WN, WN/TiN, and WN/(TiSi)N) or niobium mononitride layers (such as TiSiN/NbN) deposited by sputtering of the multielement cathode TiAlZrNbY and others, is analyzed. The functional properties of individual components (structural elements, composition elements) of these coatings, as well as the components of composite cutting materials based on WC-Co, are considered.
