The purpose of the work: the development of scientific approaches to the formation of the institutional and economic mechanism of activity and development of water transport as a factor of strengthening its competitive advantages in modern conditions of transformations in th industry. Research methods: the main provisions of economic theory, scientific works of domestic and foreign scientist regulatory and legal support for the functioning of water transport and the processes of its transformation, statistical base. The methodological basis of the work is a systematic approach, system-structural analysis and synthesis, methods of comparison and logical generalization, analogies and grouping, economic-statistical and economic-mathematical methods, nam forecasting theories, optimization theories, statistical and graphic methods of retrospective and comparative analys transformation and extrapolation of trends.
