A giant fourfold magnetic anisotropy (with an anisotropy field up to 4 kE) was observed for the first time in a twin epitaxial NiMnGa film. Its appearance is explained by a moderate connection between twin variants having strong uniaxial magnetocrystalline anisotropies directed orthogonally, when the intertwin exchange field is comparable to the anisotropy field. The obtained result paves the way to increase the magnetic anisotropy order in a multicomponent system while preserving the value of the anisotropy field by tuning the intercomponent exchange strength, which is necessary for many spintronic and magnon applications, in particular, the fabrication of full-angle giant magnetoresistive sensors based on the Wheatstone bridge
