The object of the study is the artistic activity of I.S. Yizhakevych in the 1890s-1910s in church buildings. In order to study the peculiarities of the artistic style in projects, a number of monumental works executed by the Ukrainian artist in temple buildings in Kyiv and outside of it are considered for the first time. It should be noted that there have been no art historical works on the study of the artist's work of the period under study in domestic cultural studies. An adequate stylistic characterization of the artist's works is impossible without a deeper insight into the key features of Art Nouveau. Therefore, in recent years, preceding this work, the author purposefully studied the peculiarities of the artist's monumental church works, taking into account the essence of Art Nouveau as a pan-European process in culture. Archival sketches and photographs from various collections in Ukraine are used for scientific comparative analysis in the development of the topic, which is a new perspective on the artist's temple murals. Some paintings that were previously considered irretrievably lost are being introduced into scientific circulation for the first time. The results of the research are related to the main activities of the National Conservation Area “Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra” and have a clear prospect for further art historical development and, as an integral component of the problem of the synthesis of arts in Orthodox churches of the Art Nouveau era, can be included in the general problems of the history of Ukrainian art and the construction and design practice of interior design of modern church architecture.
